Cases we take

Child support

Support comes from a formula, but the formula is only as good as the numbers you put in it.

We gather the pay stubs, overtime, health insurance and childcare costs on both sides and run the state formula before the court does. If your income or your child's needs have changed since the last order, we ask for a review and show the new numbers in writing.

What the plan covers

  • Both parents' income, overtime included

  • Health insurance and medical costs

  • Childcare and school costs

  • Overnights under the parenting plan

  • Past-due support and how it's collected

Three times people call us

  • A first order

Setting support as part of a divorce or a new parenting plan.

  • A change in income

A lost job, a new job or a big raise on either side.

  • Support that isn't paid

Asking the court to collect what's owed and keep it coming.

Support questions we hear weekly

Can support change without going back to court?

No. Even if you both agree to a new amount, it needs a court order, or the old amount keeps adding up.

Does overtime count?

Usually, yes, though how much counts depends on how regular it is. We look at at least a year of pay to get it right.

What if I'm paid in cash or run a business?

Then income takes more work to show. We use bank records and tax returns, and a specialist when the numbers are complicated.
