FAQ

Short answers before you call

Short answers. Your first meeting is for the long ones.

Starting

Is the first meeting confidential?

Yes. What you tell a lawyer while asking for legal help is confidential, even if you don't hire us.

My spouse already filed. Is it too late?

No, but there's a deadline to respond, often a few weeks. Call us as soon as you've been served.

Can I talk to you without my spouse knowing?

Yes. Tell us how you'd like us to reach you, and we'll only use that.

Fees

How do you bill?

A flat fee for uncontested divorces and an hourly rate for everything else, with a fee estimate for each step in your plan.

Can my spouse be made to pay my fees?

Sometimes, when one spouse earns much more. We'll tell you at the first meeting whether it's worth asking.

Children

Do children pick which parent they live with?

Not on their own. A judge may consider an older child's wishes as one factor among many.

Can I move to another town with my children?

If it changes the other parent's time, you'll usually need their agreement or the court's permission first.

Working with us

Which office will handle my case?

Usually the one nearest you, but any of the three can, and all three lawyers know every case.

How quickly do you reply?

Within one business day, by phone or email, whichever you prefer.
